Then and now

Hunter Valley Buses employs a team of over 240 experienced, loyal and dedicated people focused on providing and improving a quality service throughout the Hunter Valley Region for nearly twenty years.
We have an operational fleet of over 160 vehicles ranging from mini buses to luxury 5-star coaches. Our extensive route service carries over 500,000 passengers yearly and our school services provide transport for over 1,000,000 students yearly across the Hunter Valley- Newcastle region.
Hunter Valley Buses has been serving the people of the Newcastle Region for over 20 years. Business operations were consolidated during 1986 under the corporate name of Blue Ribbon Coaches services. This operated from four sites: Wallsend, Raymond Terrace, Maitland and Singleton.
In November 1999 the opening of The Transport and Distribution Centre at Thornton saw the amalgamation of Wallsend, Raymond Terrace and Maitland depots. This new complex houses the company’s administration, workshop and training operations. Blue Ribbon is now offers School Bus Services, Extensive Route Services, Luxury Coach Travel, Bus Charter, Training, and Human Resource Services all from one central location.

In February 2000, Westbus, Australia’s largest private bus company, partly owned by the National Express Group, purchased the bus operational assets from Blue Ribbon Coaches. Trading as Blue Ribbon Bus Company, it has now an operational fleet of over 160 vehicles ranging from mini buses to luxury 5-star coaches. The extensive route service carries over 500,000 passengers yearly and their school services provide transport for over 1,000,000 students yearly across the Hunter Valley- Newcastle region.

Westbus Group was first placed into voluntary administration in January before a joint venture between the two transport firms, ComfortDelGro Cabcharge Pty Ltd, agreed to purchase the firm for $106.7 million in August. In October 2005 a joint venture of two leading international land transport organisations, ComfortDelGro Corporation and Cabcharge Australia, ComfortDelGro Cabcharge was finalized with Blue Ribbon now trading as Hunter Valley Buses Pty Ltd.

Charter services are supplied not only to centrally located heritage country towns, but also to one of Australia’s premium wine making regions. In excess of over 80 wineries located within this region, offering tasting, accommodation and rural settings. Hunter Valley Gardens, Pokolbin Estate Wines, Wyndham Estate, are but a few not only famous for wine in Australia but also becoming popular on the overseas market.
